This region was once the castle town of the medieval mountain castle of Katashida, and it lies on a plateau above the Midori River. Because the Hamato River lacks enough water to sustain rice farming, these reservoir ponds were built to retain water to be used for irrigation. This course visits a few of these reservoirs that are still in use today.
