The Spacious Farms of Aso, a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System
Kugino in Minamiaso is certified as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System, and this course takes you through its irrigation waterways, pastures, and large farms. You can walk through fields that are burned regularly to keep out shrubs and trees and maintain the grasslands, and the large Kannon Cherry Blossom Tree is a highlight of Makino. The rice paddies nestled in the gentle bends of the Shirakawa River form a landscape vital to the history of Japan.
