Mamihara is a post town along the old Hyuga Thoroughfare between Kumamoto and Miyazaki that prospered as a center for trade. Even now, the traditional white-walled warehouses and stone staircases still remain, earning this town the Kumamoto Townscape Award and making it a very rewarding area to walk through.
