Based on a legend from the Heian period, in 1926, after 20 years of effort, the 88 temples of Shikoku were opened in this area. Then, 60 years later, a preservation society was formed in 1987 and the Takuma New Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage again found itself in the spotlight.
